It has become apparent to me, that my Friday nights are now all about cooking the perfect meal. This is my fourth week at this, and I must say, for someone who is not a good cook, I’ve certainly started enjoying the process.
It does help my self-esteem that my culinary hero is Julia Childs . She didn’t learn to cook French cuisine until she was 37, after enrolling at the Cordon Bleu cooking school in France. Julia moved there with her husband, Paul, after he was reassigned to the U.S. Information Service at the American Embassy in Paris.
Can you guess that one of my favorite movies of all time is Julie and Julia ? Please watch it if you’re not a good cook. It will teach you so much about chasing your dreams and going after what you believe in.
Julia even wrote a 2 volume book on French cooking, in collaboration with two of her friends and fellow Cordon Bleu students, Simone Beck and Louisette Bertholle, titled Mastering the Art of French Cooking, which was released in September 1961 and remains a bestseller!
Tonight, I will be attempting to bake a chicken. Again. Yes. A chicken. If you’re a vegan, please forgive me!
The first time I tried, I bought a fowl! Guru and I waited almost 4 hours for it to be ready. We didn’t eat until 12 am, and it was so tough! Yep, I struck out that night. But tonight, I’m on a mission. I’ve done well these past 3 Fridays. Let's hope that I don't burn the chicken tonight.
Wish me luck!
