STRANGER THAN FICTION
My favorite character with writer's block has got to be Karen Eiffel (Emma Thompson), an author stuck on how to kill her main character, who also happens to be one of the funniest actors alive (no pun intended), Will Ferrell.
Mr. Ferrell’s character, Harold Crick, begins to hear Karen’s voice, one morning, narrating his life in precise details: his actions, thoughts and feelings, as she works on her manuscript about him. The catch is that even though Harold begins to hear her voice, she has no idea that her ‘fictional’ character is real!
When we meet Karen, she’s standing on the roof of a building, looking down (but it's just her imagination - she's thinking of ways to kill Harold). Karen's writer's block causes her publisher to send an assistant, Penny Escher (Queen Latifah), to make sure that she completes her book. It’s a fascinating movie that shows how tortured Karen is by the ending of her book. I won’t tell you whether she ends up killing Harold or not. You’ll just have to watch to find out!
