FINDING YOUR WORDS

I'm not an expert on writing, and I don't pretend to be. Sometimes, I struggle with comma placement and using "pass" and "past" correctly (they can really mess with you if you're a perfectionist). But I love words. I always have.

As writers, sometimes our external world interferes with how we see words. They can become our enemies. They can hurt us. But most importantly, they can elude us, and when that happens, we tend to shut down. Staring at a blank screen with so much to say but being unable to find the words is probably worst than writer's block.

But we owe it to ourselves to find that inspiration that once enabled us to sit freely and write like our lives depended on it. The world will always be here with its challenges, but we won't. So, as writers, it's imperative to not let it bog us down with its weight.

In the words of Anaïs Nin, “We write to taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospect.”

So, here's to finding our words again.
